My name is James Williams, but lots of people call me Eddie. In a way, it’s possible to divide my life according to who calls me James and who calls me Eddie. For most of my life, I was Eddie. Now that I’m out of college and working, I’m James. Essentially, taking away the “I know the form says James, but I go by Eddie” explanation of my name has made my life a lot easier.

That sort of makes me wonder about the way that so many people are unprepared to deal with someone who doesn’t go by his first name.

Anyway. My name is James. Or Eddie. You decide.

I was born in Columbia, SC on February 1st, 1983. That makes me 25 years old. I spent most of my life a few miles down I-20 in Florence, SC. Florence is a nice place and I’m glad I grew up there, but I’m also glad to be out (except for all of the hoopy froods I left behind!). I went to high school at Florence Christian School and graduated class of 2001. I’m not a fan of FCS.

I earned a BS in Computer Science from Clemson University in Clemson, SC. I graduated in May 2005. I loved Clemson and almost daily wish I were back there. I miss it a lot. That’s not to say that I wasn’t ready to get out of school by the end, of course. Stiil, Clemson holds a very special place in my heart.

After graduating, I took a job offer in Charleston, SC. My employer frowns on the employees talking about work, so I won’t go into detail. I’ll just say that I do enjoy my job and I’m using my degree. I think that puts me ahead of a lot of people.
